I wish I could agree on this one, because in terms of a purely graphic perspective it's striking because of the huge icons, but I don't. I feel it's just an over-design-y refresh that doesn't really hit the mark on the actual game. Sure, Mr.Monopoly is an icon, but it just doesn't hit home for me. I have to admit, I really enjoyed the re-designs for the old-fashioned board games done within the last couple of years. The packaging was beautiful but remained true to the concept of the games.
Once again, it's a great use of icons and interesting colors, but it just seems like a design for design sake and I can't shake that. Maybe being in advertising for a while, I've gotten to a point where I over-analyze certain reasoning behind the design, but there's something off the mark on this one.
From a designing standpoint it's beautiful. It's simplistic yet intriguing.
However as a consumer while I would still purchase the game (mainly because I am THAT customer that will purchase items because of packaging), I still yearn for the classic packaging (yes I said yearn).
There are some classic logos that shouldn't be changed; let's refer to the tropicana disaster for reference.
I like it. It's very well done. But I have to agree with Laz a little bit. I feel like it's a tad arbitrary. With the wrap around "M" sash, I feel like this should be part of a larger series of board game designs. I would love to see a collection of these including Scrabble, Life, etc. I feel like the design would be more appropriate as a set.
It would be interesting, to me at least, to see how one could maintain the integrity of the game and it's characteristics, while conforming it to this very sleek design. I'd perhaps be most interested to see how the inside compartmental elements would be adapted across the line.
Totally Paul, I agree. As a set for a special edition, it may make more sense. And that's where i think the challenge would come in. Something like LIFE that doesn't necessarily have a figure or icon to refer to, I feel wouldn't fit this style very well...
Speaking of re-designs... Do I feel a new Design Challenge coming along? Anyone else feel it? I think I dooohoooo...
I actually love this design, although I agree it would be better as part of a set of redesigned board games (kinda like how they were doing the wooden boxes for a few classic board games like Monopoly, Life, extra). The classic packaging does nothing for me really. I'd buy it because I want the game, not because the package takes my senses hostage (interestingly enough, I do not own Monopoly). But what I really enjoy about this is how he has organized the items within the game. No plastic baggies and floating money. I can dig it.
Same goal: To share works, inspirations and thoughts related to art and design. Started in 2006, P.I.D. provides us with an otherwise missing outlet for the creativity not absorbed by our daily jobs.

utterly beautiful. I would pay good money to own that. Id also like to see the game board its self.
