Double Take: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

So often times in the Movie Poster business, the agencies are advised to be as sneaky as possible in the execution of visuals in order to properly sell the film for the studio funding it. For the past couple of weeks, one in particular is an obvious and blatant attempt to fool consumers into watching this film. "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans", a prequel to the popular Kate Beckinsale headlined franchise, is missing one major selling point. Kate Beckinsale. How do you remedy that? You taker a character who was previously seen in the films in flashbacks (who had blonde hair none the less), and you recast her with the spitting image of Beckinsale. Poor attempts..

Here are the film posters in order:

Consensus: Fail.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed that her character is really supposed to be blonde.

BUT I will point out that Beckinsale shouldn't be in the film seeing as when the first Underworld was released, the film industry said they would be producing a pre-quel & a sequel. Seeing as Kate Beckinsale's character Selene wasn't turned in the pre-quel it makes sense that she isn't in it. Good news is though...according to a blurb on imdb.com, Kate Beckinsale is suppsed to be making an appearance in the film!

So maybe they do have legitimate reasons to make her look like Kate Beckinsale in the poster....

And I also failed to point out that in the first Underworld, it explains that Viktor turns Selene because Selene reminds of him of his own daughter, Sonja. Hence another reason that they are most likely making Rhona Mitra, who plays Sonja, resemble Beckinsale.

Obsess Much!? But you are right, and we should wait for the movie before we judge too much. Besides the fact that shes a Beckinsale look-alike. The poster itself sucks. My favorite one if the first one. And the fact that your icon is a panda just made explode with laughter.
