I feel as though it doesn't even make any sense to the context of photoshop. It's the most random, convoluted shape and seems to have no meaning. And the bubble effect is pretty obnoxious.
On top of looking like PBS, it also reminds me of the ichat logo. I'll get way too confused in my dock.
You guys are right on with the 'PBS' look and feel... I think the 'P' shape is what they were obviously going for in the log design. All around I don't think it's all that bad.
Recently we got CS3 and I was disappointed that the creative identities for the start up screens where gone. Where were those feathers that amazed me with the transparency showing my desktop through the wisps? What about Illustrator's reference to renaissance artworks? Since the merger with the Macromedia products, I think that Adobe branding has gone down hill. In trying to gain consistency, they have gained boredom. Now that they are the company with the monopoly on image editing and authoring for print, web and even motion graphics maybe they feel that they no longer need to try.
This logo is a joke and I thought for a moment that it was one.
I really enjoyed the Periodic Table of elements theme that Adobe went for with CS3. http://www.kapowaz.net/images/adobe-cs3-icons.jpg I guess I interpret it as Elements are necessary in life, and adobe is necessary in design.
Same goal: To share works, inspirations and thoughts related to art and design. Started in 2006, P.I.D. provides us with an otherwise missing outlet for the creativity not absorbed by our daily jobs.

Why...
I don't like it. Look amateurish for some reason. At least, it does considering it would be the logo for Photoshop. Also throws me back to PBS.
What does everyone else say?
I hate this like i hate traffic. http://blog.eachday.com/2007/8/1/bubble-logo-insanity

Growl.

"Bubble" filters are the new black.
