.....started this series of CATS after watching "Who Is Bozo Texino?", a documentary I highly recommend. It's based on a wooden cat head I have from el estado de Guerrero in Mexico that I've been drawing for years. All CATS have found a home in the subway.
Besides being the lead singer of the band Incubus and the man of my dreams, Brandon Boyd is an accomplished fine artist. His paintings and drawings are colorful and full of movement. I came across an interview with him online that I think everyone here should read whether you are a fan of his work or not. He has an interesting perspective on things, and shares some of his insights on life, art and music.

This is really just a stunning article by Paul Shaw. A real comprehensive history of subway signage in New York. If you're in the mood to really geek-out over typography, this is a must-read.
The (Mostly) True Story of Helvetica and the New York City Subway
I’ve been working on a Wizard of OZ illustration series based on the original book version for the longest now. Ever since I started on this project, I can't help but notice a bunch of Wizard of OZ comics that have/are coming out. It's quite a coincidence. Not that no one has ever thought of the subject, but it's just funny that it's come to my attention since I decided to illustrate scenes from the classic book.
Today at Midtown Comics, as I finished purchasing some Marvel titles, I noticed they had a free WOZ sketchbook promoting an upcoming comic mini-series by Skottie Young and Eric Shanower. Although I try not to look at other WOZ-related comics for fear that those ideas leak into my own work, I gave it the ol' look-a-roo and found the style treatment to my liking; A fun revisioning of the characters, very loose yet expressive brushwork and a rich, earthy color palette (from what I saw in the preview pages). I look forward to following this title when it goes on sale in December. You can find more info on it here.

So I've been working on a short these past few months that has finally started to take a real shape. I wanted to share this character; I will be animating for a sequence from the short. His name is Beelzebub.
